Interior Design

 

The Department of Architecture and Design aims at producing qualified Interior Designers who are able to participate effectively in building national institutions in a modern scientific style and by using the best advanced technology. The Interior Design Program contributes to building a distinct scientific base in the field of architectural interior design through advanced plans and programs of study.

The Department of Architecture and Design offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design after the student successfully completes 138 credit hours with an AGPA of not less than 2 out of 4 points, and in a duration of 8 semesters, so that the number of semesters for graduation is not less than 7 Semesters or 6 semesters and two summer sessions.

 

Access to leadership, excellence and creativity in all areas of architectural interior design through distinguished university education and modern applications of advanced technology, as well as the use of optimal and realistic scientific methods in a positive and practical environment.

Providing students with theoretical and applied scientific knowledge and skills that qualify them to advance the level of the actual local and regional architectural interior design according to modern requirements and locally approved standards; supporting and developing programs that enforce the academic values and social ethics; and encouraging scientific research and cooperation with other institutions locally and internationally.

  • Preparing qualified graduates specialized in the scientific and practical fields of interior design.
  • Graduating distinguished students in their specializations capable of research and innovation that serve the community and advance its capabilities and contribute to setting future solutions addressing the problems related to interior design.
  • Employing information and communications technology and computer science to benefit from them in establishing the concept of architecture and interior design and to serve the profession through the application of modern technology in architectural and interior design scientific research.
  • Work to build partnerships and cooperation with other departments and institutions locally and internationally.
  • Participating effectively in local and international academic and scientific events, and holding seminars, conferences and workshops in cooperation with others.
  • Providing consultations and expertise to the community to solve architectural and environmental problems.
  • Providing a promising supportive learning and training environment to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge within the Department of Architecture and Design.

The following are the skills and concepts expected to be acquired for a graduate of Interior Design specialization:

  • Possessing professional knowledge and technical skills that provide job opportunities in the field of interior design.
  • Understanding the basics of the visual perspective, principles and systems for designing 2D and 3D shapes, and producing basic interior building drawings using AutoCAD or other electronic means.
  • Displaying the proposed design on display boards through the use of visual aids such as manual graphics, computer presentation techniques and material and color options.
  • Using basic architecture principles in designing interior spaces and other locations.
  • Understanding national traditions and local and Islamic regional heritage in architectural design and urban design
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the fundamentals of design including design elements, color principles, theories and systems, design and installation theories, and lighting design principles and theories.
  • Applying the fundamentals and principles of interior design theory.
  • Developing design programs and projects that contribute to solving spatial problems consistent with the principles of environmental sustainability.
  • Evaluating the interior spaces designated for living and working and their effect on adaptation, movement, subdivision and arrangement of furniture.
  • Applying creative and artistic solutions in a structural framework to achieve an internal, constructive, aesthetically attractive, and functional aspects that enhances the quality of life and culture for residents.
  • Creating designs that are responsive and consistent with the shape of the building and are in line with the geographical location and social context of the project.
  • Understanding ethical standards in professional practices of architecture and design and adhere to standards of professional and personal behavior.

A Student is granted a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design after a successful completion of 138 credit hours in the period of eight semesters. The academic Interior Design plan consists of General Faculty Requirements and Compulsory and Optional Departmental Requirements.
